Sons of Italy Tournament Champions
It was an amazing way to start the 2024-2025 high school wrestling season for the Winchester High grapplers, who had a first place showing at the 38th Annual Wilmington Sons of Italy Wrestling Tournament at Wilmington High School. Up and down the lineup, the kids wrestled tough, against wrestlers from some of the top teams in Massachusetts (and even Portland, Maine). The results of all the hard work in the off-season, and over the past two weeks, were evident. Winchester High had 3 champions holding up their bracket sheets at the end of the day – Henry Wallace at 106 lbs, Kai Napadow Baquero at 113 lbs, and Eddie Donlon at 132 lbs. Eddie was also voted Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weights (there are two chosen amongst all the champions, one for upper and one for lower weights). Winchester also had another finalist – Omar Alosta at 285 lbs, and two 3rd place finishers – Andrew Sim at 120 lbs and Aiden Aharonian at 190 lbs. Finally, 3 wrestlers placed 4th – Freshman Leo Gannon wrestling up at 126 lbs, Yousef Ebeid at 165 lbs, and Shaun Garrett wrestling up at 215 lbs. All these placers (and points earned by the rest of the team in other matches) added up to a FIRST PLACE FINISH! Congratulations to Coaches Ryan Errico and Anthony Fraumeni and, of course, to all of the wrestlers. We’ll see if they can keep their momentum going as the season progresses.
